X-Men Origins: Wolverine Review

Reviews - Wii

X-Men Origins: Wolverine LogoThe Wii version of  X-Men Origins: Wolverine suffers from just about every problem common to movie-licensed video games. While the combat system can be fun for a couple of hours, the game is heavily weighed down by repetitive enemies and bosses, poorly implemented and archaic design choices and a downright ugly presentation.

After seeing how well the Uncaged Edition of X-Men Origins: Wolverine for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 was being received by fans and the gaming press alike, I had somewhat high hopes that the Wii version would be competent as well. These hopes were dashed within ten minutes of starting the game as I failed an obtuse quick time event and saw the game over screen before being forced to watch an unskippable cut scene for the second time. Ultimate Shooting Collection Review

Reviews - Wii

Ultimate Shooting Collection Title ScreenBudget software publisher UFO Interactive Games has brought three arcade SHMUP (Shoot ‘em up) titles from MileStone Inc. to North America in compilation form. Fans of the old-school, hardcore genre will be able to play two of the included games for the first time on a home console without importing.

The compilation is dubbed Ultimate Shooting Collection, though many SHMUP fans would agree that the games included here are more of the mediocre variety. There are some emulation quirks, but the package features complete soundtracks, multiple control options and the ever-popular TATE mode for those brave enough to turn their TV on its side.  More...

Monopoly Review

Reviews - Wii

Monopoly LogoThe first Monopoly game produced under the EA-Hasbro partnership is a bare-bones affair. The classic core gameplay is intact and we are introduced to the fast-paced Richest Mode, however there is little to justify the game’s $40 price point.

Monopoly
starts with two boards available to play on; the Classic board we grew up with and an all-new board based on the Here and Now: World Edition issued earlier in 2008. There are seven additional themed boards for players to unlock, complete with unique player tokens. More...

Celebrity Sports Showdown Review

Reviews - Wii

Celebrity Sports Showdown LogoIts production values are well above average, but Celebrity Sports Showdown from EA Sports Freestyle does little else to distinguish itself on a system already teeming with party games.

Celebrity Sports Showdown is not a standard mini-game collection. It is a package of 12 events based on outdoor sporting activities like beach volleyball, rock climbing, horse racing and archery.  Players can choose to play the events as one of 10 real life celebrities or 15 “wannabe” characters in Free Play or Tournament modes. Wario Land Shake It! Review

Reviews - Wii

Wario Land: Shake It! ReviewFans of Nintendo’s Wario Land series will feel right at home with Shake It!. This 2D platformer provides a top-notch visual presentation and plenty of replay value, though the formula and level design start to wear thin towards the end of the game.

The story of Wario Land: Shake It! Sees the titular anti-hero obtain a magic globe and telescope that let him travel to the once peaceful Shake Dimension.  Once there, Wario sets out to rescue the citizens known as Merfles and their young Queen Mirelda from the clutches of the evil Shake King.

Aided by his long-time rival Captain Syrup, Wario will have to traverse five continents to rescue the queen and most importantly, the mythical Bottomless Coin Sack that contains a never ending supply of gold. The story is light and a bit nonsensical. In other words, it’s perfect for a game starring Wario. More...
